Back in May this year the club supported the Archery GB Big Weekend on 18-19 May for the first time. Archery GB asked Clubs and organisations to throw open their doors and welcome members of the public to try archery at fun and friendly events. The weekend is intended to promote the sport and bring more people into it. The club definitely had a number of people who expressed an interest in taking it further and coming along to one of our Beginners Sessions.
We all agreed for our first attempt at this event it was a success with more than 80 people turning up to have a go which is brilliant. We offered them target shooting and tuition for a £1 donation to East Anglia Children’s Hospice and as a result we donated £105 to that charity.
We also offered a fun shoot which was very popular with a range of targets, balloons, a 3D dear and spinning target, we also had a clout flag out at 80 yards that a few people tried. Whilst this event is not about money we still took over £50, which at 50p ago for 6 arrows is some going.
We offered refreshments over the two days which took more than £100, (obviously we need to take costs out of that) but again very good. So all in all great success for our club and archery in general.
The Club has now received a thank you card from the Archery GB Team who managed this national event.
