Gipping Valley Archers run Beginner Courses on a Regular Basis. We will post on this page the date of the next Beginner Course when the date has been finalized. 

The beginner courses normally take place at Claydon High School on a Sunday afternoon (2:00pm - 5:00pm). The course lasts six weeks and costs £50 for an adult and £30 for a child (under 18 years of age).

The course covers the following aspects of archery:

• Safety
• Whistle Signals
• Official Roles (Linesman, Judge, Coach, Archer)
• Types of Archery (Field, Target, Clout, Popinjay, Novelty)
• Types of Bow (Recurve, Compound, Longbow)
• How to Shoot Barebow (without a sight)
• How to Shoot Freestyle (with a sight)
• How to score
• How a competition works
• How to set up and put away targets safely
• Where to buy equipment and what is right for you

Our club is mainly a Target Archery club however we do occasionly do clout and field for a change. On the 5th week of the beginners course you will try both clout and field. On the 6th week you will take part in a small club compitition. Throughout the course you will have at least one qualified coaches guiding you.
